Field Hockey Turns it Pink

The Women's Field Hockey team "Turned it Pink" to help raise awareness for the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center

Whether it’s the Women’s Basketball team at Late Night, Dick Baddour wearing a ribbon at a press conference, or people tinting their Twitter pictures… pink is in. Pink has even shown up on the playing field. The Women’s Field Hockey team “Turned it Pink” last weekend to support the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center.

The Tickled Pink campaign has been an annual event for the UNC Lineberger  Cancer Center to raise funds for UNC’s Comprehensive Cancer Support Program. This past weekend, the Field Hockey team partnered with the UNC Lineberger Cancer Center and the  UNC Relay for Life group to help support the cause.

“We were so happy to be able to share in the celebration and awareness for this very special month.  This cause is so important because of the effect it has on so many lives close to each and every one of us, and to be able to honor the survivors, those currently battling this disease, and those who have battled in the past is such a special thing,” said Freshman Meghan Lyons.

The Field Hockey team also partnered with Maddie Moore, a local Chapel Hill six-year-old, who sold pink lemonade and snacks at the games. Moore created her own campaign, “Drink the Pink” in honor of her surviving mother and all those fighting breast cancer. To learn more about Maddie Moore and her project, visit her website HERE.

The weekend was not only successful in raising awareness for cancer… the Women’s Field Hockey team won both of its games against Virgina (3-2) and James Madison (4-0). Way to go ladies!
