Second Weekend in a Row for Rowing

Rowers are known for being hard workers. They finish their morning routines before most of us are thinking about rolling out of bed. On Saturday the team wasn’t concerned about the rain or sleeping in. Instead the UNC Rowing team participated in another Habitat build for the second weekend in a row.

“It was chilly and there was mud everywhere, but I think it’s safe to say we all had a great time!” said Senior Leah Kosow. “I haven’t been to the neighborhood since the first time the team volunteered in November, so it was great to see that some families had already moved in.”

With the team’s third time at a Habitat build this year, they are experts in the construction filed. They have helped with roofing, insulation and painting. Some girls have even noticed that their handyman skills have improved.

“My accuracy with the hammer is finally starting to improve after three trips to Phoenix Place!” exclaimed Senior Brittany Walsh.

The UNC Rowing team loves to get involved with Habitat for Humanity, but the team admits that picking which outreach activity to get involved with can be challenging at time.

“There are so many ways to get involved around Chapel Hill that it can be overwhelming because you want to do it all,” said Kosow. “I think the opportunities we have to volunteer as student-athletes are a wonderful way for us to ensure that the four years we spend at Chapel Hill are not only athletically and academically rewarding for us, but accomplish a sense of humanitarian achievement as well.”

I’d say that the UNC Rowing team has achieved in their humanitarian efforts so far this year!
